He was born in one of the most prominent aristocratic families in Britain. He is considered one of the founders of analytic philosophy and is widely held to be one of the 20th century’s premier logicians.

Arundhati Khandkar was formerly Professor of Philosophy at S.I.E.S. College, University of Mumbai. She has written several books including Baja, the translation of Machiavelli’s The Prince; Tarkateertha: Prajnyapravah, a biography of Laxmanshastri Joshi; and Adi Shankaracharya: Life and Philosophy. She has translated the book Spiritual Materialism by Tarkateertha Laxmanshastri Joshi from Marathi into English.

His work has had a considerable influence on logic, mathematics, set theory, linguistics, and philosophy. In 1950 Russell was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, “in recognition of his varied and significant writings in which he champions humanitarian ideals and freedom of thought.”
